Website Hosting and Maintenance

It’s 10 o’clock. Do you know where your website is?

Take me to site maintenance pricing.

After building dozens of WordPress-based websites for small organizations over the last several years, we have found the one common problem that often arises after the project is finished is that website is for the most part ignored once it is launched.

The other problem is that though WordPress is designed to be usable by non-technical persons, there is still quite a learning curve to climb in order to learn how to maintain it properly. Often, people who run small organizations have more urgent and interesting things already filling their schedule.

Large organizations with a budget can either hire someone with the technical skills and inclinations who can spend all or at least part of their time maintaining and updating their WordPress-based website. Small organizations don’t have that luxury. Combined with a lack of time, and sometimes a real aversion to spending off hours in front of a computer screen staring at the somewhat overwhelming WordPress admin dashboard, their website becomes ignored, eventually becoming out-of-date.

Unfortunately, these days a website is the modern, and admittedly the more costly, equivalent of a Yellow Pages listing. A web presence of some kind is usually necessary just to let the public know that your business or non-profit organization exists. It is a necessary investment that can help your organization succeed. But, it requires regular maintenance.

Our WordPress maintenance service is tailored to fit small organizations with a limited budget. For a small monthly fee, we watch and worry about your website so that you can focus on what you do best, fulfilling the mission or your organization, whatever that may be.

What Our WordPress Maintenance Service Includes

Monitoring uptime.

We are notified when there is a problem with your website and have the technical background to know who needs to be contacted and what must be done to in order to bring it back up. We will notify you of extended outages so that you don’t hear about from one of your clients first.

Analyzing and monitoring performance.

The amount of time it takes for pages to download from your website can negatively affect search engine rankings, and cause visitors to look somewhere else for whatever they are trying to find. We monitor your website’s performance and can also inform you of what needs to be done when performance problems arise. Fixing those problems is not included in the service unless the solution is something we can implement within 15 minutes. When more extensive work is required, we provide you with a cost estimate of the work involved.

Scan for security problems daily.

Running a security scan on your website daily detects malware and software that is vulnerable to attack. We know when these are detected on your site and take immediate steps to eliminate them.

Run daily site backups.

Backing your website up daily is another thing that keeps your website resilient in an Internet world full of goblins hacking away at the door in order to get into your website. There are also those occasional mistakes that we all make when trying to add or update content. In the event of such an occurrence, we will help you restore your site free-of-charge.

Analyze and configure technical SEO infrastructure.

Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is another area in which small organizations are at a disadvantage. SEO is so complex that it can be considered a separate discipline. There are two aspects of it, technical SEO and content SEO.

Content SEO entails authoring and structuring content such that pages on a website appear as high as possible in search engine result.

Technical SEO, on the other hand, includes making sure that your website is properly configured such that search engines can scan your website so that its pages can be added to the search engine index. It also informs content SEO by detecting how well content is structured and worded.

Our service includes making sure that all of the tools required for technical SEO are configured on your website. We configure your site with Google Analytics, Google Search Console, and the Yoast SEO plugin.

We do not offer extensive SEO content services at this time.

Provide fast and secure hosting.

If you are happy with your current hosting provider, we will do our best to work with them. However, in many cases, we may recommend moving your website to our own managed WordPress provider, WP Engine.

Provide the first point of technical contact when there are problems.

There is more to your website than just the website. First, there is the Internet itself. Between a visitors browser and your website, there are many things that can go wrong. For your website to be reached by visitors, there is a domain name service (DNS) that contains the address of your website. Then your website itself runs on hardware maintained or more likely rented from a third-party data center provider. Modern websites also rely on other services to provide content, Google Maps, for example, and display components, such as fonts.

So, if someone contacts you to tell you that your website is down, who do you call? If you use our service, all you need to do is call us. We have the experience to properly identify the likely cause of the problem and correct it, assuming it is within our power. If the data center where your website is hosted goes down, we can’t do anything but wait. But at least we can find that out quickly, keeping you from wasting your time and providing you with the information you need to inform your own visitors and customers.

Minor content updates

If there is content on your site that needs minor editing, for example, an address or phone number change, a typo, or something of that scale we are glad to make them for you free of charge. We must bill if the number of these edits exceed 3 per month, or it turns out there number and extent of the changes are larger.

Peace of mind

We worry about your website so that you can focus on what you do best. You should ever need to ask us, “Dude, where’s my website?” But, even if you do, we will know.
